Patrick Sky (October 2, 1940 – May 26, 2021), also known as Pat Sky, was an American musician, folksinger, songwriter, record producer, guitarist and uilleann pipe player. He was of Irish and Muscogee Creek Indian ancestry.
Pat's songs have been covered by Don McLean, Buffy Sainte-Marie, John Denver and Eric Andersen among others, and his songs were often compared to those of Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs, Tom Lehrer and John Prine. A member of the Broadside Singers from the 1960s Greenwich Village folk scene, Patrick Sky released four well-received albums from 1965 to 1969. He played with many of the leading performers of the period, particularly Buffy Sainte-Marie, Eric Andersen, Joni Mitchell and the legendary blues singer Mississippi John Hurt (whose Vanguard albums Sky produced).
Heavily influenced by Hurt, Pat's guitar playing style was more blues/ragtime oriented than other folksingers from the scene. He was most remembered for folk staples Many a Mile and Jimmy Clay, and for his notorious 1973 album Songs That Made America Famous. Pat retired from folk singing in the later part of his career, and moved into the field of Irish traditional music. He was recognised as an expert in building and playing the Irish uilleann pipes, often performing with his wife Cathy.
I searched the web but didn't find a website for Patrick Sky songs, so I decided to make this page myself to create a collection of Pat's lyrics and chords as complete as possible. It's still under construction by now. If you want to request the chords to a particular song that is still unavailable on this page, feel free to post a request in our forum.
The sheet music, chords and lyrics to a lot of Pat's songs was published in his 1970 songbook Clear, but it is currently out of stock and I have not been fortunate enough to get a copy of it. If anybody have the book and is willing to share the chords and lyrics on the songbook, please drop me an email at ddpro@163.com.
