Ramblin' Boy

E7 A He was a man and a friend always. E7 A He stuck with me in the hard old days. D A He never cared if I had no dough. E7 A We rambled 'round in the rain and snow. A D A And here's to you, my ramblin' boy. E7 A May all your ramblin' bring you joy. D A And here's to you, my ramblin' boy. E7 A May all your ramblin' bring you joy.

In Tulsa town we chanced to stray.
We thought we'd try to work one day.
The boss said he had room for one.
Says my old pal, "We'd rather bum!"

And here's to you, my ramblin' boy.
May all your ramblin' bring you joy.
And here's to you, my ramblin' boy.
May all your ramblin' bring you joy.

Late one night in a hobo camp,
The weather it was cold and damp.
He got the chills, and he got 'em bad.
They took the only friend I had.

So here's to you, my ramblin' boy.
May all your ramblin' bring you joy.
And here's to you, my ramblin' boy.
May all your ramblin' bring you joy.

He left me here to ramble on.
My ramblin' pal, is dead and gone.
If when we die, we go somewhere,
I'll bet you a dollar, he's ramblin' there.

And here's to you, my ramblin' boy.
May all your ramblin' bring you joy.
And here's to you, my ramblin' boy.
May all your ramblin' bring you joy
.

(Words and music by Tom Paxton, 1963)

Notes: Chords according to the original 1964 recording. In later versions of the song, the chord progression is the same, but Tom starts playing the D chord right after singing "here's to you" and before "my ramblin' boy".
